Just like last year, the cost is $100 per team. Each team can play up to 5 people on the court and subs are welcome. The volleyball tournament format and schedule will be finalized once the number of teams are established. The winning team will once again win a cooler full of beverages (alcohol and non-alcohol) and prizes.
If you don't want to play volleyball, no worries! We have plenty of other fun for all! Food and drinks will be provided in the covered pavillion. We will have a raffle with tons of great prizes mid-day. Orono Park in Elk River is VERY family friendly - beach, splash pad, park, and pickleball. But let's be honest...having fun in the sun with awesome people, all while raising money for an adorable toddler. We are all winners!
MEF2C Background - WHY are we doing this!?
Early in 2023, Teegan had genetic testing come back with a rare genetic disorder called MEF2C. It is a deletion of a portion of her chromosomes. Symptoms can include developmental delays, epilepsy, language delays or lack thereof, unusual movements, and delays in learning how to move or lack thereof. MEF2C was only discovered in 2009, so the disorder is relatively new and less than 400 people worldwide have been diagnosed with the disorder.
2024 was the second year we hosted a volleyball fundraiser for MEF2C. We raised enough money to help fund a portion of a clinical research assessment in Boston with the lab of Dr. Wendy Chung. There were over 30 families that attended this assessment in-person from all over the US, Canda and Europe. Our family was blessed to attend the assessment with Teegan. She was able to complete all the assessments and we met so many MEF2C families in-person to help strengthen our support system of continuing this MEF2C journey for Teegan.
The 2025 volleyball fundraiser will support funding the second round of clinical research assessments in Boston with the lab of Dr. Wendy Chung during January 2026. Our family is excited to continue to support this research with the hope of treatment options in the future!
